FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:  Connector board failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

System needs to be shutdown by customer

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

*** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

The service manual refers to the connector board as the paddle card
This procedure has many other pre-requisite procedures and all cannot fit into this action plan
The service manual needs to be consulted

1. Remove the motherboard assembly
See "Remove the Motherboard Assembly" section in the manual
2. Remove the power distribution board
See "Remove the Power Distribution Board" section in the manual
3. Remove the fan power boards.
See "Remove the Fan Power Board" section in the manual
4. Remove the two No. 1 Phillips screws securing the paddle card to the chassis.
5. Slide the paddle card back, away from its connector on the hard drive backplane.
6. Tilt the paddle card away from the side of the chassis and lift the paddle card up and out of the system.
7. Place the paddle card on an antistatic mat.
8. Lower the new paddle card into the chassis
9. Slide the paddle card forward to plug it into the hard drive backplane.
10. Secure the paddle card with two No. 1 Phillips screws.
11. Re-install the fan power boards.

12. Re-install the power distribution board.
See "Install the Power Distribution Board" section in the manual
13. Re-install the motherboard assembly.
See "Install the Motherboard Assembly" section in the manual

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: n/a

PARTS NOTE: Be sure to select the correct type of connector board: PATA or SATA
