DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
T5140/T5240 support training or field experience with other CMT servers.

TIME ESTIMATE: 170 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:  Replace System Board

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Full verified backups of all data and operating systems potentially affected by service activities. The system needs to be shut down and powered off with power cables disconnected.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD precautions. Follow procedures documented in Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140 and T5240 Servers Service Manual
"Servicing the Motherboard Assembly", see the Reference section.

  • When replacing a system board install all FB-DIMMs removed from the old motherboard. Ensure that the FB-DIMM modules are installed in the same memory configuration as they were in before.
  • The SCC module contains system host ID, MAC addresses, and configuration variable settings for ILOM. If you are replacing a system board, you must move the SCC module from the old motherboard to the new one.

NOTE: When replacing motherboard or service processor in LDOM environment, follow the steps and guidelines in Document 1019720.1 to prevent loss of LDOM configuration data and recover LDOM environment after replacement.

NOTE: After replacing the RAID controller (system board), any existing HW RAID volumes (and member disks) may not be seen and need to be recovered (re-activated). If the Disk Volumes (including boot disk/volume) become inaccessible, consult doc ID 1009723.1: Unable to see a pre-existing RAID volume on Sun Fire T1000/T2000, Sun Sparc Enterprise T5120/T5140/T5220/T5240/T5440

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Power on system and observe POST for errors. Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system.
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
