DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)

T5140/T5240 training to be qualified as an Oracle Service personnel

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

Task Complexity: 1

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

PCIe/XAUI riser card failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

System needs to be shutdown by customer

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

*** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

1. Power off the server
2. Disconnect all power cables
3. Disconnect any data cables connected to the PCIe/XAUI card inserted on the PCIe/XAUI riser being serviced
4. Remove the Top Cover
-Unlatch the fan module door by pulling the release tabs back to release the door
-Press the top cover release button and slide the top cover to the rear about a 0.5
inch
-Lift up and remove the cover
5. Remove the PCI cross beam.
-Loosen the two captive Phillips screws on each end of the removable PCI
cross beam
-Slide the PCI cross beam back to remove it from the chassis
6. Loosen the captive screw securing the riser board to the motherboard
7. Remove the riser and the PCIe/XAUI card attached to it as a unit
8. Carefully remove the PCIe/XAUI card from the riser board connector
9. Insert the PCIe/XAUI card into the new PCIe/XAUI riser board
10. Lower the PCIe/XAUI riser and any cards attached to it into the system
11. Ensure that the PCIe back panels are properly engaged with the corresponding slots in the motherboard tray/back panel connector assembly.
12. Tighten the captive screw to secure the riser to the motherboard.
13. Install the PCI cross beam.
Slide the cross beam forward over the PCIe/XAUI risers. Ensure that the cross beam is engaged with the standoffs on either side of the chassis rear panel PCI cross beam.
14. Tighten the two captive Phillips screws securing the removable PCI cross beam to the chassis.
15. Install the top cover.
16. Connect any data cables you removed to service the PCIe/XAUI cards.
17. Connect all power cables.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.

PARTS NOTES:

The PCIe/XAUI riser board are located in slot 0/3 and 1/4 in T5240
