DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
NOTE: Special Care is needed with ordering PCI Riser Cards, as there are specific PCI Riser Cards for the PCI Slots within the systems
T5140:
1. Two x8 PCI Express/XAUI Risers are installed in Slot 0 and Slot 1.
2. The Slot 0 and 1 PCI Express Channel is electrically eight lanes wide.
3. One x16 form-factor PCI Express Riser is installed in Slot 2.
4. The Slot 2 PCI Express Channel is electrically eight lanes wide.
T5240:
1. Two x8 PCI Express/XAUI Risers are installed in Slot 0/3 and Slot 1/4.
2. Slot 0/3 and 1/4 PCI Express Channels are electrically eight lanes wide.
3. One x8/x16 form-factor PCI Express Riser is installed in Slot 2/5.
4. Slot 2/5 PCI Express Channel is electrically eight lanes wide.

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
PCI Riser Card Failure
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown. Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord. PCIe/XAUI cards are installed on vertical risers. You must remove the PCI cross
beam and relevant riser to access a PCIe/XAUI card.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1) Remove a PCIe/XAUI Riser
1. Power off the server.
2. Disconnect all power cables.
3. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
4. Disconnect any data cables connected to the cards on the PCIe/XAUI riser being removed.
5. Slide the server out of the rack.
6. If you are servicing a PCIe/XAUI card, locate its position in the system.
7. Remove the PCI cross beam.
8. Loosen the captive screw securing the riser to the motherboard.
9. Lift the riser up to remove it from the system.
2) Install a PCIe/XAUI Riser
1. Lower the PCIe/XAUI riser and any cards attached to it into the system.
2. Ensure that the PCIe back panels are properly engaged with the corresponding slots in the motherboard tray/back panel connector assembly.
3. Tighten the captive screw to secure the riser to the motherboard.
4. Install the PCI cross beam.
5. Engage the two captive Phillips screws on both sides of the removable PCI cross beam and tighten the two screws to secure the removable PCI cross beam to the chassis.
6. Install the top cover.
7. Slide the server into the rack.
8. Connect any data cables you removed to service the PCIe/XAUI cards.
9. Connect all power cables.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
* If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
PARTS NOTE:
Same procedure of replacement this unit both for T5140 and T5240. Just a part model is different with each other.
