PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

Repeater (RP) Failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

>v1280, E2900, 3800, & Netra 1280/1290 must shut down their domain.

For 48x0, 6800, E4900, & E6900 see Sun Fire Midrange Systems Platform Administration Manual for complete procedures for powering off the board and to identify affected domains that must be shut down:

http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19095-01/sfe6900.srvr/819-5088-10/819-5088-10.pdf

1) Issue 'init 0' on any domain(s) associated to the RP needing to be replaced.

2) Power off the domain(s) as needed from the Main SC 'SC> setkeyswitch -d (domainID) off'.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

NOTE: If the system is a Sun Fire 3800, the RPs are located on the Centerplane.

Examples use a board location of "#".

1a) On Sun Fire E2900/v1280, REMOVE left input air filter per Sun Alert
Potential for System Outages Due to Cooling Issues on Sun Fire V1280/E2900, Netra 1280/1290 (Doc ID 1021703.1).

* Insert "FILTER REMOVED" in the ATR Feedback comments.

1b) On Netra 1280/1290, the customer needs to order & replace the air filter (PN X6806A-Z) per Sun Alert Doc ID 1021703.1

* This maintenance is the customer's responsibility.

* Filters are required to be serviced every 3-6 months per the Periodic Maintenance instructions.

* Filter Installation Guide provides instructions:
Sun Fire E2900/V1280 and Netra 1280 Systems Filter Installation Guide
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19095-01/sfe2900.srvr/817-2680-12/817-2680-12.pdf

1c) All other systems, skip to step 2.

2) 'SC> poweroff RP#' (may echo that it is already off).

3) Perform the physical RP replacement documented in the Service Manual.

4) 'SC> poweron RP#'

5) For LW8  platforms (Sun Fire v1280, E2900, Netra 1280, 1290), after an RP replacement, it might be required to use 'enablecomponent' or 'setls' to remove the RP from the blacklist and bring it online again.

This is not required for Serengeti platforms.

        lom>setls -s enable -l RPX or
        lom> enablecomponent RPX

6) 'SC> showchs -b'

7) Reset any "Suspect" or "Faulty" components to "ok" from the Main SC or from the lom prompt:

SC> setchs -s OK -r "SR number" -c <comp>

NOTE: If ScApp 5.20.15 or higher, service mode access IS NO LONGER REQUIRED to execute setchs.

If < 5.20.15, contact service to obtain a Service Mode password or generate one yourself at https://modepass.us.oracle.com

(a backup server is also available from https://modepass-bak.us.oracle.com)

Repeat "setchs" command until all components are "ok". Verify "showchs -b" is empty.

8) Start domain(s) sequentially 'SC> setkeyswitch -d (domainID) on'

9) Monitor POST

* If new errors are detected, collect POST and contact Support.

* If not, the service is complete.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
