DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
System Controller Application (ScApp), lom
TASK COMPLEXITY: 4
TIME ESTIMATE: 120 minutes
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
I/O Board (IB) Failure
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
While it is not impossible to utilize Dynamic Reconfiguration (DR) for this replacement, it's not likely that it can be used because all I/O Device paths would have to be redundantly configured and you could not be booted off this I/O Board.
This "canned" action plan focuses on replacing an IB when not able to utilize DR, because this is the majority of situations.
1) Gracefully shut down the domain containing the defective IB: On the domain:
$ halt
or
$ init 0
2) Power off the domain. On the Main SC or from the lom prompt:
SC> setkeyswitch -d (domainID) off
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
In the instructions below, examples use a board location of "#".
1) Perform the physical IB replacement (Service Manual links below).
Make sure that all existing I/O cards (HBAs) are relocated from the current IB to the new IB and that they are located in the same slot locations as before. Reattach all I/O cables identical to their original configuration.
2) Power on the new board. On the Main SC or from the lom prompt:
SC> poweron IB#
3) Verify the CHS status of ALL remaining components. On the Main SC or from the lom prompt:
SC> showchs -b
4) Reset any "Suspect" or "Faulty" components to "ok" from the Main SC or from the lom prompt:
SC> setchs -s OK -r "SR number" -c <comp>
NOTE: If ScApp 5.20.15 or higher, service mode access IS NO LONGER REQUIRED to execute setchs.
If < 5.20.15, contact service to obtain a Service Mode password or generate one yourself at https://modepass.us.oracle.com
(a backup server is also available from https://modepass-bak.us.oracle.com)
Repeat "setchs" command until all components are reset. Verify "showchs -b" is empty.
5) Flash the firmware on the new board to match an existing board. On the Main SC or from the lom prompt:
SC> showboards -p proms
The above command shows current Versions of firmware. On the Main SC or from the lom prompt:
SC> flashupdate -c (source board) (destination board)
The above command performs the flash from an existing IB to the new one.
6) Initiate the domain bringup as follows. On the Main SC or from the lom prompt:
SC> setkeyswitch -d (domainID) on
7) Monitor the POST execution (will appear on the domain console).
* If new errors are detected, collect POST and contact Support.
* If not, the service is complete.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot the system and monitor for any errors on the boot process. If errors exist with locating the boot device, validate that all cables were re-attached in their proper location.
