PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Faulty Power Distribution Board (PDB)
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
System should be powered off.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge
Removing the Power Distribution Board
1. Ensure system is powered off.
2. Remove the cover assembly
3 Disconnect the PDB wiring harness from the three connectors on the system board.
4. Disconnect the PDB cable from the interface board in the front section of the system.
5. Withdraw the PSU from the chassis far enough to unplug them from the PDB.
6. Unscrew the retaining screws that hold the PDB assembly in place.
7. Press the plastic retaining clip holding the wiring harness out of the dividing wall in the server.
8. Remove the PDB assembly.
Installing the Power Distribution Board
1. Insert the PDB assembly in the server's chassis.
2. Replace and tighten the retaining screws.
3. Reconnect all cables.
4.Reconnect the PSU.
5. Replace the cover.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and ensure system is fully operational by running POST. After system is booted log in as root and run command # prtdiag and verify all components present.
