DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure
TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4100, X4100 M2, X4200, X4200 M2 HDD needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
This component is a hot-swappable CRU.
If the HDD is part of a Hardware mirror, no other action then replacing the drive is necessary but data backup is a wise precaution. If the HDD is not part of a Hardware RAID or part of a Software Raid, consult customer on data backup before replacement.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Identify the defective drive
2. Press the button on the face of the drive to release the spring-loaded securing latch
3. Grasp the securing latch and remove the drive from the drive bay
4. Push new drive all the way
5. Push back securing latch until it locks
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
If the HDD was part of a Hardware mirror, no other action is required.
If the HDD was not part of a RAID, the customer might need to restore data.
