FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
- Faceplate is damaged.
- CAP assembly is not functional.
- CAP latch is broken.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Customer must take library and drives offline to applications and OS.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Verify that the faceplate is damaged, CAP not functioning properly or the latch assembly is broken.

Refer to SL500 Replaceable Parts Catalog, PN96120, for complete instructions to remove/replace 8U faceplate assembly.  This provides Pictures, Notes, and Cautions that should be reviewed.

The 8U faceplate is attached to the front of each expansion module and includes the CAP assembly.

8U Faceplate (EZ) Removal:

If this is not an EZ faceplate, refer directly to the "Replacement Parts Catalog" for complete instructions.

1. Be sure the customer has ended all jobs assigned to the drives.
2. Park the robot by pressing the 'Open Door' button on the keypad.
3. Wait until the robot is parked before continuing with the next step.
4. Go to the rear of the library and remove power from the library by toggling the main power switch to the
    OFF position.
5. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to help disengage the robot facade's ball studs from their receptacles.
6. Remove the facade.
7. Reach into the opening on the left side of the robotics unit and grasp the Z flex retraction handle.
8. Pull the handle out of the opening and away from the front of the robotics unit until the other end of the
    handle appears in the opening.
9. Slide the retraction handle back into the opening.
10. Use the key provided to unlock and open the front door.
11. Reach inside the door opening and press the CAP door latch located at the tope of the CAP.
12. Open the CAP door.
13. On the faceplate being replaced, grip the handle on either magazine and slide it out of the CAP.
14. Remove the other magazine.
15. Press or pull down on the spring latch located on the inside bottom of the CAP door.
16. Continue to hold the spring latch down and pull the bottom of the door toward you until the hole in the
spring latch clears the bottom hinge pin.
17. Release the spring latch and lift the door off the top hinge pin.
18. Repeat these steps for the other CAP doors.
19. Remove the 2 hing screws from the door on the faceplate that is being replaced.
20. Slide the door out of the tongue and groove and set the door and hinges aside.
21. Repeat these steps for the expansion door above and below it.
22. Remove the 2 T15 center screws securing each faceplate to the faceplate above it.
23. If a base module is above the faceplate, being replaced, go to remove step 23 in the Base Faceplate
(EZ) procedure and remove the base door, otherwise go to step 25 in this procedure.
24. Place the ends of the op cable harness through the door opening in the base faceplate.
25. If the faceplate being replaced is installed on the bottom module, continue with the next steps; if not, go
      to step 29.
26. Remove the 2 T15 torx screws attaching the floor to the expansion faceplate.
27. Extend the floor out of the expansion module a minimum of 2.54 cm (1.0 in).
28. Go to step 37.

For all the modules below the faceplate being replaced, perform the following steps:
29. Work from the bottom module upward and remove the Z poles inside the modules:
      a. Grasp the Z pole.
      b. Push down against the bottom pole mount until you can slip the top of the pole off of the upper pole
          mount.

At the back of the library, perform these steps to the same modules:
30. Loosen each thumb screw to remove the covers over the expansion cables.
31. Push the locking tabs on each connector inward with a flat-bladed screwdriver.
32. Pull the white tabs to unplug the cables.
33. Tuck the cables away so they do not get damaged.

At the front of the library:
34. Starting with the bottom module, remove the T25 screws on the left and right sides that attach the
      module to the rack.
35. Fully open any doors that were not removed.
36. Starting with the bottom module, push the module toward the front of the library 5.1 cm (2 in.) to 5.7
      cm (2.25 in.).
37. Remove the T25 screws attaching the module to the rack.
38. Remove the 2 black screw caps along the left side of the faceplate.
39. Use a 5/16 nut driver to remove the 4 nuts and 2 screw cap washers from the faceplate.
40. Pull the faceplate forward off the studs and tilt away from the rack until the CAP cable is accessible.
41. Free the cable from the cable clamp on top of the CAP.
42. If the expansion faceplate is installed below the base module, continue with the next steps; if its installed
below another expansion module, go to step 46.
43. Tilt the faceplate back against the  frame to allow slack in the cable.
44. Reach through the door opening and disconnect the cable connector.
45. If you are replacing the CAP cable, go to step 14 in that procedure, otherwise continue with the next
     steps.
46. Pull the faceplate slightly away from the frame and lift it up as far as you can.
47. Pivot the bottom toward you until it clears the faceplate below it.
48. If the faceplate is below another expansion module, continue with the next steps, if not, go to step 4 of
      the replacement procedures.
49. Lower the faceplate until you can access the CAP cable connector.
50. Disconnect the CAP cable from the CAP-RLM cable.
51. If you are replacing the CAP cable, go to remove step 18 in that procedure, or...
52. If you are replacing the CAP door lock arm, go to remove step 7 in that procedure, or...
53. If you are replacing the CAP-RLM cable, go to remove step 24 in that procedure, otherwise continue
      with the next steps.

Replacement of 8U Expansion Faceplate:

7. If the faceplate is below a base module, continue with the next steps, if not, go to step 10.
8. Lean the faceplate against the rack to allow slack in the CAP cable.
9. Reach through the door opening and connect the CAP cable connector to the RLM-CAP cable.
10. Tilt the faceplate away from the rack until the cable clamp and CAP cable are accessible.
11. Feed the cable into the cable clamp or retainer.

14. Install 2 nuts on the studs along the right side.
15. Install the 2 screw cap washers and 2 nuts on the left studs.
16. Install 2 screw caps onto the screw cap washers.
17. Attach the module to the rack with 4 screws.
18. If the faceplate you replaced is installed on the bottom module, continue with the next steps, if not, go to
      step 21.
19. Slide the floor into the expansion module until it is seated against the faceplate.
20. Attach the floor with 2 screws.
21. Starting with the tip extended module, carefully slide each module into the frame.
22. Install 4 screws to secure the modules that were extended to the rack.
23. Install any Z poles that were removed.
24. If a base module is installed above the faceplate you replaced, continue with the next steps; if not, go to step 27.
25. Pull the ends of the op cable harness out of the door opening on the base faceplate.
26. Install the base door.
27. Install the center screws for each module.
28. Starting with the top expansion door, use 2 hinges and screw to install each expansion door that you
      removed.
