GoalHow to Remove / Replace an SL500 Faceplate (EZ), Base:ATR:983:2SolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONSWHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?) Trained on SL500 library. TASK COMPLEXITY: 2 TIME ESTIMATE: 90 minutes FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS PROBLEM OVERVIEW: - Faceplate is damaged. - CAP is not opening/closing properly. - CAP latch is broken. WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : Customer must take library and drives offline to application and OS. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: Verify faceplate or CAP latch is damaged. Refer to Oracle/StorageTek SL500 Replaceable Parts Catalog, PN96120, for detailed instructions on removal/replacement of Base Faceplate (EZ) Assembly. It will provide the Pictures, Notes and Cautions for proper replacement. The base faceplate is attache to the front of the base module and includes the CAP assembly. The robot assembly , base door, and base CAP door are removed during this procedure. Note: Should this Base Faceplate be from the early original library, go directly to the Replacement Parts Catalog as the process is different. Base Faceplate (EZ) Removal: 1. Be sure the customer has ended all jobs assigned to the drives. 2. Park the robot by pressing the 'Open Door' button on the keypad. 3. Wait until the robot is parked before continuing with the next step. 4. Go to the rear of the library and remove power from the library by toggling the main power switch to the OFF position. 5. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to free the facade's ball studs from their receptacles. 6. Remove the robot facade. 7. Use the door key to unlock the front door. 8. Open the front door. 9. Use the key to lower the latch rod. 10. Close the front door. 11. Reach into the opening and grasp the Z flex retraction handle. 12. Pull the handle out of the opening and away from the front of the robotics unit until the other end of the handle appears in the opening. 13. Slide the retraction handle back into the opening. 14. Push the latch on the robotics unit door to the right and open the door. 15. Push the locking lever on the right side of the robotics unit to the left and hold the leaver in that position. 16. Use you other hand and insert your fingers into the open door of the robotics unit. 17. Pull the unit until the lever clears the locking hole. 18. Release the lever. 19. Continue to pull the robotics unit out of the library until you can grasp the unit on both sides. 20. With a firm grasp on the robotics unit, slide it out of the base module, turn it upside down, and lay it on a flat surface. 21. If you are replaceing the CAP cable, go to remove step 2 in that procedure, or if you are replacing the CAP door lock arm, go to remove step 2 in that procedure or.... 22. If you are replacing the base CAP-RLM cable go to remove step 15 in that procedure, otherwise continue with the next steps. 23. If you have an operator panel installed on the door, go to step 28; if not, continue with the next steps. 24. Inside the top of the door, disconnect the op cable harness connector from the door switch cable. 25. Remove the T10 torx screw attaching the cable clamp in the upper right hand corner. 26. Remove the T15 torx screws attaching the cover to the cable pocket. 27. go to step 32. 28. Remove the 2 T10 torx screws attaching the operator panel cover to the door. 29. Remove the screws attaching the cable pocket cover. 30. Disconnect the power (P18) and signal (P15) connectors on the op cable harness from the op panel. 31. Disconnect the door switch cable at the top of the base door. 32. Pull the op cable harness out of the cable pocket. 33. Temporarily rout the cables through the door opening in the base faceplate. 34. Remove the 2 T15 torx hinge screws attaching the base door to the faceplate. 35. Set the hinges aside with the door. 36. If you are removing an 8U Faceplate (EZ) or a CAP cable, go to step 24 of EX 8U faceplate procedure, otherwise continue with the next steps. 37. If expansion modules are installed below the base module, remove their doors. 38. Reach inside the library and push the CAP door latch at the top of the CAP assembly on the base faceplate. 39. Remove the base CAP magazine by gripping the handle and sliding it out of the CAP. 40. Remove the base CAP door. 41. If expansion modules are installed, go to step 45 and continue, otherwise, do the following steps for a stand-alone base module. 42. Remove the 2 T15 torx screws attaching the floor to the base faceplate. 43. Extend the floor out of the base module a minimum of 2.54 cm (1.0 in). 44. Go to step 47. 45. Remove the CAP door from each expansion module. 46. Go to step 29 in the 8U Expansion Faceplate procedure and carefully follow the steps for safely extending the expansion modules out of the rack. 47. Remove the 2 T25 torx screws attaching the base faceplate to the rack. 48. Remove the 2 black screw caps along the left side. 49. Use a 5/16 nut drive to remove the 4 nuts and 2 screw cap washers from the faceplate. 50. Disconnect the CAP cable connector, 51. Pull the faceplate forward off the studs, and lift the base faceplate over the top edge of the floor or the faceplate below it. 52. Carefully pull the op cable harness out of the cable access hole in the faceplate. 53. If you are replacing the CAP-RLM cable in the DEM, go to remove step 24 in that procedure, or... 54. if you are replacing the CAP-RLM cable in the CEM, go to remove step 43 in that procedure, otherwise continue with the next steps. Base Faceplate (EZ) Replacement: 1. Thread the op cable harness through the cable access hole in the faceplate. 2. Lift the base faceplate over the top edge of the faceplate below it. 3. Align the holes on the faceplate with the studs and push the faceplate onto the studs until it is against the module frame. 4. Install 2 nuts on the studs on the right side. 5. Install the 2 screw cap washers and 2 nuts on the left studs. 6. Install the 2 black screw caps along the left side. 7. Install the 2 screws that attach the faceplate an module to the rack. 8. If you have expansion modules installed below the base, go to step 21 and follow those steps otherwise continue with the next steps. 9. Slide the floor into the base module until it is seated against the faceplate. 10. Attache the floor with 2 screws. 11. Connect the CAP cable to the RLM0CAP cable. 12. If expansion modules are installed below the base module, fully open the expansion doors. 13. Place both door hinges on the base door and hold them in place as you perform the next steps. 14. If an expansion module is below the base, mate the groove at the bottom of the door with the tongue on the door below it. 15. Ensure the alignment pins on the hinges are inserted into the holes on the faceplate and the hinges are fully seated against the faceplate. 16. Attach each hinge with a screw. 17. If no operator panel is installed, go to step 23, otherwise continue with the next steps. 18. Fold the cables in the cable pocket and route the cables. 19. Connect the signal (P15) and power (P18) cables to the operator panel. 20. Attach the cable pocket cover with screws. 21. Attach the operator panel cover to the door with 2 screws. 22. Go to step 28. 23. Fold the op cable harness and insert it into the cable pocket. 24. Mount the cover over the cable pocket with screws. 25. Insert the op cable harness into the cable clamp. 26. Attach the cable clamp to the upper right hand corner with 1 screw. 27. Connect the op cable harness to the door switch cable. 28. If you are replacing the EZ 8U faceplate, go to replace step 27 of that procedure, otherwise continue with the next steps. 29. Replace the base CAP door. 30. Slide the CAP magazine into the base CAP. 31. Close the CAP door. 32. Carefully lift and slide the robot most of the way into the base module. 33. Push the lever on the robot door to the right and open the door. 34. Make sure that the guide rail on the left side of the robotics unit is aligned with the slot on the base faceplate. 35. Push the unit the rest of the way into the frame. 36. Check that the locking lever on the right is fully seated. 37. If necessary, push the lever to the right. 38. Lift and secure the robotics unit door. 39. Use the door key to raise the latch rod. 40. Close and lock the front door. 41. Position the robot facade on the front of the robot. 42. Press on the front of the facade until the 3 ball studs snap into their receptacles. 43. Power-on the library by toggling the main power switch to ON. After replacement, verify functionality of faceplate and library. OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Bring library and drives back online to the OS and application.
