Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
General SE3000 series hardware and software training and general use of Sun firmwares patches.

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 3

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Upgrade of disk drive firmware of the SE3000 series array

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Complete and clean unmount of all filesystems hosted by the array from the data host view.

Please note that stopping all the applications accessing these data is not sufficient.
We need to make sure that logical drives are not accessed by any of the data hosts.
So the best way to ensure this is to proceed to a clean and complete shutdown of the hosts.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
This is only a general procedure guideline.

0. Prerequisites : depending on the patches, sometimes a SPARC based machine running Solaris will be necessary.

This host will need to be able to access the SE3000 array from the customer's network
Prior to starting the upgrade procedures :

sccli> show configuration -o /var/tmp/configuration-BEFORE-fw-disk-upgrade.txt

Run extractor out of band
http://pts-storage.us.oracle.com/products/SE33xx/tools/

1. Download all required patches

2. Uncompress drive firmware patches in separate directories

3. May possibly need to install a package contained in the patch files (see README or patch details)
** CAUTION ** sometimes the package installation will only be possible onto a SPARC machine.

Generally in /var/sadm/<>/mload <Management IP> of the attached host.

4. Follow specific instructions in the patch to perform the disk firmware upgrade (disk model vary ): process will start with an automatic

shutdown of the controller(s)

5. At the end of the procedure, SE3000 controllers are automatically restarted

6. Proceed with the next disk firmware patch

7. When process completed, verify the disks are online and the disk firmware upgrade completed successfully

From the telnet Main Menu , choose View and Edit Drives, select a drive and press <enter>. Select view drive information
From sccli> show disks

Also check the following:

sccli> show logical-drives
sccli> show logical-volumes
sccli> show lun-map
sccli> show redundancy

Recommend generating a complete configuration snapshot at the end and compare it with the one generated at the beginning :

sscli> show configuration -o /tmp/configuration-AFTER-disk-fw-upgrade.txt

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
devfsadm -Cv
luxadm probe
format - verify disks are available
mount file systems,etc

PARTS NOTE:
<None>

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
*** Please carefully read the README for the related disk firmware patches as instructions may vary from one file to another.
Please make sure that you do fully understand them prior to proceeding with the upgrade.

Data losses may occur if procedures are not strictly followed ***
