 How to Replace a Sun SPARC T5120/T5220 Cable Kit

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS


WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:

T5120/T5220 product knowledge/training to be qualified as Oracle service personel.

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

Defective SAS cable

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

System needs to be shutdown by customer

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

There are three different cable kits available for the T5120:

FRU 530-3896 : 4 disks backplane using on-board HW raid

FRU 560-2911 : 8 disks backplane using on-board HW raid

FRU 560-2920 : 4 and 8 disks backplane using the SAS RAID HBA PCIe card

And two kits for the T5220:

FRU 530-3896 : 8 and 16 disks backplane using on-board HW raid

FRU 560-2921 : 8 and 16 disks backplane using the SAS RAID HBA PCIe card

Check customer configurations and order the needed kit

*** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

1. Power off the server
2. Disconnect all power cables
3. Disconnect any data cables connected to any PCIe/XAUI card if needed
4. Remove the Top Cover
-Unlatch the fan module door by pulling the release tabs back to release the door
-Press the top cover release button and slide the top cover to the rear about a 0.5 inch
-Lift up and remove the cover
5. Replace cables routing them as they were before
6. After replacement reverse the order of fixing as mentioned in above points

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Have customer check all disks access
