FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Firmware upgrade needed on SDLT drive. This could be due to known issues resolved with more current code or drive is very down-level on code.

CONFIRM THE FAULT BY CHECKING:
Verify level of firmware in drive via Op Panel, SL Console or Drive Diagnostic Utility as in SCSI/FC Toolbox.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Sys-Admin should offline the library and tape drives before upgrade the firmware.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Contact customer to schedule Firmware upgrade.

Locate and download the appropriate drive microcode binaries for drive model, host OS, and interface.

For DLT tape drives, either SCSI/FC Toolbox or the Quantum SDLT Update tool must be used. SCSI/FC Toolbox is the preferred method. (the process detailed below)

1. Select Unloaded/Offline DLT drive from the Bus Scan screen.
2. Pull down the Tape Command Menu.
3. Click the "DLT Firmware Download" command.
4. A window will pop-up displaying all levels of .FUP code loaded in the STKSTB directory or display
    another directory, using browse, where .fup code has been stored.
5. Click the level of code to be downloaded, then click open.
6. The following prompt appears:
     Are you sure you want to download code?
     Yes / No
    Click Yes to continue download.
7. The download starts:
    Do not interrupt or power cycle. This process may take up to five minutes.
8. The seconds counter ticks, shows activity and cautions:
    "Wait until operation is finished."
9. The download is complete when the message appears:
    "Cycle the drive handle mechanism. If you cannot, then power cycle the drive"
     OK
    "Update Finished."

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Have customer bring the drive online to the OS and software application. Verify functionality by running R/W test and check code level via the Software Application.
