DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?

The engineer should be M8000/M9000 trained

TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

TIME ESTIMATE: 150 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

Someone with root access is required to properly unconfigure/configure the card per instruction below.

The customer is not required to perform a system shutdown unless opting for 'Cold Replacement'

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

NOTE:  Pulling card without properly unconfigure card from Solaris may cause server to panic if doing an active replacement.

If replacing a Fibre Channel (FC) HBA please see doc 1407550.1.

Active Replacement

1. From the OS, execute:

a. cfgadm -a command to verify Ap_Id,

AP_ID is comprised of the IOU number <x> and the PCI cassette slot number <y> (similar to iou#<x>-pci#<y>

b. cfgadm -c unconfigure <PCI_ApId>,

c. cfgadm -c disconnect <PCI_ApId>,

d. cfgadm -a to confirm status.

Hot Replacement:

1. Ensure customer has powered down domain.

2. Confirm POWER LED on PCI card is off.

Cold Replacement

1. Change OPNL from Locked to Service.

2. Ensure customer has powered down domains.

3. Confirm POWER LED on OPNL is off.

Note: On a M9000-64 the base cabinet should be switched off first.

4. Switch off all main line switches.

5. Check XSCF STANDBY LED on OPNL goes out.

Remove and Replace ( All Methods )

1. Remove cassette of card to be replaced.

a. Loosen green screw.

b. Pull lever until it stops, and continue pulling it to pull out cassette.

2. Remove card from cassette. (Use conductive mat.)

Caution: Do not loosen screws at bottom because they are used as a reference position.

3. Mount replacement card on cassette. (Use conductive mat.)

4. Install cassette.

Active Replacement

1. From OS execute

a. cfgadm -c connect <PCI_ApId>

b. cfgadm -c configure <PCI_ApId>

c. cfgadm -a command to confirm status of card.

Hot Replacement:

1. Power on domain.

2. Use showstatus to check the status and ensure no fru's are degraded or faulted.

3. Turn on power to the relevant domain.

Cold Replacement

Note: On a M9000-64 the expansion cabinet should be switched on first.

1. Switch on all main line switches.

2. Use showstatus to check the status to ensure no fru's are degraded or faulted.

3. Confirm that XSCF STANDBY LED on OPNL remains lit.

4. Start (power on) all domains.

5. Return mode switch on OPNL to its original position.

All Methods:

Once the replacement is complete check the status to ensure no further fru's are in degraded or faulted status.

XSCF> showhardconf -M

XSCF> showstatus
