Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
The engineer should be M8000 M9000 trained

TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

TIME ESTIMATE: 150 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Customer should shutdown and power off the domains.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Recommend the engineer download Service Manual 819-4202.
- Cold Replacement Only:
1) Change switch on OPNL from Locked to Service.
2) Ensure customer has powered down domains.
3) Confirm POWER LED on OPNL is off.
Note: On a M9000-64 the base cabinet must be switched off first.
4) Switch off all main line switches.
5) Check XSCF STANDBY LED on OPNL goes out.
- Part Replacement
1. Remove the following components so that you can access the MEDBP to be replaced.
M8000
a. Remove the tape drive unit.
b. Remove the CD-RW/DVD-RW drive unit.
c. Loosen the two retaining screws to remove the partition box located between the CD-RW/DVD-RW drive unit and XSCFU.
d. Remove the two XSCFUs. If a cable is connected, remove it.
M9000
a. Remove the tape drive unit and CD-RW/DVD-RW drive unit.
b. Remove IOU#0, IOU#2, and IOU#4.
2. Remove the MEDBP to be replaced.
a. Loosen the two thumb screws securing the MEDBP.
b. Slide the MEDBP to the right.
c. Disconnect the two cables connected to the rear of the MEDBP.
Note: Be sure to press both lock release buttons when removing the SAS cable.
d. Remove MEDBP carefully
Mount the replacement MEDBP by following the removal instructions in Step 1 and Step 2 in reverse order.
Caution: Do not forcibly push the MEDBP in when inserting it.
Note: On a M9000-64 the expansion cabinet should be switched on first.
a) Once replacement is complete switch on all main line switches.
b) Check status to ensure no fru's are degraded or faulted.
XSCF> showhardconf -M
XSCF> showstatus
c) Confirm that the XSCF STANDBY LED on OPNL remains lit.
d) Start (power on) all domains.
f) Return the mode switch on the operator panel to its original position.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
No additional work is required of the customer
