FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4640 GRASP Board needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown. Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord.
Ensure that if system is mounted in a rack that the anti tip over bar at the bottom of the rack is fully extended before servicing commences
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Power off the server
2. Remove the main cover
CAUTION ? There is a power status LED (CR1) on the GRASP board that indicates
whether 3.3V standby power is reaching the GRASP board. The GRASP board is not
hot-swappable and should never be removed while this LED is lit.
3. Pinch the tabs on the white plastic standoff post that is closest to the back panel of the server and simultaneously lift the rear edge the of GRASP board to free it from that rear standoff post and the connector on the motherboard
4. With the rear edge free, pivot the GRASP board so that it clears the plastic retainer that is attached to the motherboard handle
5. Pinch the tabs on the white plastic standoff post that is closest to the front panel of the server, and simultaneously lift the front edge the of GRASP board to free it from that front standoff post
Be careful to avoid bending the GRASP board while removing or installing it.
6. Installation is the reverse of this procedure.
Note ! The ILOM software on the GRASP board and the system BIOS on the
motherboard should be from the same software release
After replacing the GRASP board check the ILOM and system
BIOS versions against those documented in the release notes. If they are not from the
same software release, upgrade or downgrade the system BIOS (not the ILOM)
accordingly. Once the ILOM and system BIOSare back to matching versions, you can
upgrade or downgrade both to the desired versions
Note ! After you replace the GRASP board FRU, you must use the frutool
command to update FRU information about the board
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot and check for full functionality.
PARTS NOTE: None
