FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4640 Motherboard needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Perform orderly software system shutdown. Power down system. Disconnect power cords.
WHAT ACTION DOES ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
REQUIRES adjustable torque driver.
Ensure that if system is mounted in a rack that anti tip over bar at bottom of rack is fully extended before servicing commences. Document pci cards locations and label cabling.
Note: Motherboard = MB
1. Remove the following: top cover, fan trays, CPU modules/filler, fan tray carriage rear CPU module guide from the chassis
2. Disconnect main and front panel flex cables from MB connector
3. Remove six bus bar screws that secure MB to power bus bars and loosen five captive screws that secure MB to chassis
4. Slide up small metal door in chassis mid wall (near flex-cable connector) to provide clearance for power tab of MB
5. Use MB lifting handle to raise the forward edge of board until it clears bus bar studs
6. Slide MB toward front of chassis until connectors and light pipes are clear of chassis back panel. Lift MB up to remove
7. Ensure mylar insulation remains in chassis and is correctly installed.
8. Remove old CMOS motherboard battery and insert onto new motherboard.
9. Carefully insert new MB into chassis with rear tilted downward and insert MB power tab into opening in chassis midwall. Ensure light pipes and connectors match corresponding holes in chassis back panel.
10. Lower front of MB, using care to align corresponding holes in MB over six bus-bar bolts.
11. Lower small metal door in chassis midwall that closes over MB power tab.
12. Secure MB to power bus bars using six screws.Torque screws to 7 inch-pounds (0.8 newton meters)
13. Tighten five captive screws that secure MB to chassis. Torque screws to 7 inch-pounds (0.8 newton meters)
14. Reconnect flex cable to MB connector and connect front indicator board flex cable to MB flex cable connector
15. Install rear CPU module guide. Secure to MB and chassis by tightening six captive screws. Ensure interlock switch lever is over interlock switch on MB. Verify alignment of locate button/LED at rear of machine
16. Re-install fan tray carriage. Match alignment pins on MB to holes on bottom of fan tray carriage. Tighten seven captive screws and torque screws to 7 inch-pounds (0.8 newton meters)
17. Secure fan tray carriage to top of chassis using nine screws.
18. Reinstall the following: fan trays, PCI cards and attach cabling, CPU modules/filler cards and top cover
19.Attach power cords
20. Update MB FRU information (See Service Manual for details)

REFERENCE INFORMATION:
X4640 Server Service Manual http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19273-01/
SB replacement can lead to to a serial number of '00000000' which will break ASR if the SBs are not reprogrammed after replacement. In order to reprogram the serial number you will first need access into 'Service Mode' and this requires a long password which is obtained from our TSC backline. This 'Escalation' password is needed to reprogram the serial number of the system board.
An Escalation password (similar to service password) is valid for 48 hours, and is provided by our TSC backline. The following information is needed in order for the TSC backline to generate your temporary password granting access to Service Mode in order to reprogram the serial number.
You will initially need to provide the following information:
..ILOM Version? (see "version" output)
..Serial Number? (-> show /SYS [ or /CH ] product_serial_number )
..When you will be onsite? (How soon do you need this escalation password?)
Please refer to document 'x86_serial_number_10_min_1.1.2.pdf' for additional scope on reprogramming the serial number of the system board.
