FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4640 USB Board needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord.
Ensure that if system is mounted in a rack that the anti tip over bar at the bottom of the rack is fully extended before servicing commences.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Remove the front I/O board
1. Power off the server
2. Remove the main cover
3. Note position of drives and remove all drives and fillers from the drive bays
4. Remove all fan trays from the fan tray carriage
5. Remove all CPU modules or CPU filler boards from the chassis
6. Remove the nine screws from the top surface of the fan tray carriage
7. Loosen the seven captive screws that secure the fan tray carriage to the chassis and motherboard
8. Lift the fan tray carriage out of the chassis
9. Disconnect the two flex cable connectors that come from the front panel indicator board from the front I/O board and the motherboard
It is not necessary to remove the front panel indicator board
10. Remove the two screws that secure the front I/O board to the chassis floor. Remove the board from the chassis
Install the front I/O board
1. Align the front I/O board so that the holes in the board are aligned with the screw holes in the chassis floor
Ensure that the two USB connectors on the board are pressed squarely against the openings in the chassis front
2. Replace and tighten the two screws that secure the front I/O board to the chassis floor. Torque screws to 7 inch-pounds (0.8 newton-meters
3. Reconnect the two flex cable connectors that come from the front panel indicator board to the front I/O board and the motherboard
4. Re-fit fan tray carriage
5. Re-fit CPU modules and fillers
6. Re-fit fans
7. Replace the main cover
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot and check for full functionality
