FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Faulty Fan Tray
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge
Removing the Fan Tray
1. Ensure the System is shutdown gracefully with init 5 and powered off. Disconnect the power cable.
2. Remove the System Cover
6. Remove the FAN Tray. Disconect the FC-AL Cable from J0102 and the SCSI cable, loosen the 2 screws and lift the FAN tray.
Installing the Fan Tray
1. Install the Fan Tray and reconnect the FC and SCSI cables.
2. Power On the system and watch the POST.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
In the RSC Card you can use the command "environment" to look at the Status of the FANs
in Solaris use prtdiag -v to check the Status.
