How to Remove and Replace A Sun Fire 280R Server CD-ROM DVD
Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

Field training in Sun Fire 280R Server
- TIME ESTIMATE: 40 min
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 1
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
CD/DVD failure
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Then power down the system.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Power Off the System
2. Position the System for Service
3. Remove the System Cover
4. Avoid Electrostatic Discharge, Do not disconnect the AC power cord from the wall power outlet, Use an antistatic mat and antistatic wrist strap
5. Disconnect the I/O power cable from the removable media power connector
6. Disconnect the removable media SCSI cable from the removable media SCSI connector
7. Pull off the plastic cover from the front of the Removable Media Assembly (RMA), Press down on the top of the plastic cover with your fingers until the tab on the top of the cover disengages from the chassis
8. Loosen the two captive Phillips screws securing the RMA to the chassis.
9. Slide the RMA out of the chassis.
10. Place the assembly on an antistatic mat.
11. Remove the four Phillips screws securing the CD/DVD to the removable media assembly (RMA).
12. Slide the CD/DVD out from the front of its bay in the RMA.
12. Make sure that the jumper settings on the new CD/DVD match the settings on the old CD/DVD
13. Reverse procedure to install replacement CD/DVD
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Have the customer test the CD/DVD
