Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Field training in Sun Fire 280R Server
- TIME ESTIMATE: 15 min
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 1
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Power supply failure typically indicated by amber LED on the defective supply.
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
As long as the power supply is redundant no state considerations are needed. Customer may restrict access to the system until scheduled maintenance window or quiescent state.
Note:
Use max post only when searching for IO Controller issues, Fatal Resets, and Unrecoverable Errors(UEs) that Solaris is unable to properly diagnose. If diag-level is set to max at OBP, confirm with customer that if can be moved to the factory default of min.
See: Guidance for POST Diagnostic Level Setting on Sun Fire[TM] 280R, V480, V490, V880, V890 and V880z servers. (Doc ID
1582330.1) for details.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1, Open EMI covers to access power supplies and front of chassis.
2, Loosen retainer clip for defective power supply.
Power supply zero (0) on left, power supply one (1) on right.
3, Pull handle and remove power supply. Reverse steps to replace with new power supply.
4, Verify green A/C and D/C LED indicators on replacement supply.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Hot swappable component - no system administration tasks needed.
