Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Field training in Sun Fire 280R Server
- TIME ESTIMATE: 30 min
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 1
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Faulty IDPROM (ID SEEPROM)
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Note: If you are installing a new ID SEEPROM module, it must be programmed by
an authorized Oracle Service representative before your system can resume normal
operation (You have to program the original hostid and ethernet mac addresses in most cases).
If you are installing a new system board, remember that you can
migrate your former ID SEEPROM module in order to preserve your system's host
ID and Ethernet address.
- Remove top cover and locate ID SEEPROM (socket location U2101)
- Remove defective ID SEEPROM
- Insert the replacement ID SEEPROM module into its socket on the system board.
- Make sure that the notch on the ID SEEPROM module is on the same side as the
notch on the connector on the system board.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
System administrator needs to test system functionality after boot.
