Goal

How To Remove and Replace a Hand Camera Assembly from the L180/700/1400

- Customer or Library is reporting not functional.
- FSC's from library display panel indicate problems with robotic hand.
- Stuck cartridge in the robotic hand.

Solution

-WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
Have customer place library and drives offline to application.

TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

TIME ESTIMATE: 120 minutes

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
- Check operational status of the library.
- Review FSC logs from the library Op Panel or via CLI port.
- Visually check hand for obstructions or stuck cartridge.
- Run library diagnostics on library to check functionality.
- Check the online Knowledge Base for any possible solutions from any errors found.

Should the robotic hand be determined bad, refer to the L700/L1400 Service Manual,

Chap.5, P/N 95846 for complete Instructions, including Pictures, Notes and Cautions on removal/replacement of the robotic hand assembly.

Removal:
1. Review the information under "Preparation" in Chapter 5 of the Service Manual.
2. Carefully raise the Z-carriage to the top of the Z column assembly.
3. Open the cable clamp on the left side of the hand-camera assembly.
4. Disconnect P/J194A and P/J194B connectors from the bottom of the hand-camera assembly by
    pressing the tabs on the cables.
5. Carefully lower the Z carriage to the middle of the Z column assembly, rotate the Z column until the
    hand-camera is facing Column 0, Panel 0, and insert the shipping pin left to right through the Z column
    into the Z carriage.
6. Remove the Torx T-15 lower hand-camera assembly screw from behind the hand-camera.
7. Rotate the Z column clockwise as far as possible and remove the second Torx T-15 lower screw.
8. Rotate the hand-camera counterclockwise toward you.  Remove the 2 Torx T-15 upper hand-camera
    assembly screws and lift the hand-camera assembly off of the Z carriage.

Replacement:
1. Align the holes on the hand-camera with the alignment pins on the Z-carriage.
2. Attach the hand-camera assembly with the upper 2 Torx T-15 hand-camera screws.
3. Rotate the Z column clockwise as far as possible.
4. Attach a lower hand-camera screw using a Torx T-15 driver.
5. Rotate the Z column counterclockwise as far as you can and attach the remaining Torx T-15 lower
    hand-camera screw.
6. Remove the shipping pin.
7. Carefully raise the Z carriage to the top of the Z column assembly.
8. Connect the 2 Z cable connectors (P/J194A and P/J194B) to the card on the bottom of the
    hand-camera assembly.
9. Close the cable clamp.
10. Return the system to operation.

Once hand has been replaced, run diagnostic tests to verify functionality of library.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Bring library and drives back on line to server and application.
