DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:

ScApp, lom

TASK COMPLEXITY: 4

TIME ESTIMATE: 120 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

The domain needs to be shut down.

1) On the domain issue “init 0” or you can issue “shutdown” from the lom prompt.

2) Take the system to Standby Mode

3) Detach I/O cables. Make sure to label them for re-attachment.

WHAT ACTION DOES ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1a) On Sun Fire E2900/v1280, REMOVE left input air filter.

* Please insert "FILTER REMOVED" in the comments section of ATR feedback.

1b) On Netra 1280/1290, the customer needs to order & replace the left input air filter (PN X6806A-Z).

* This filter maintenance is the customer's responsibility.

* Filters are required to be inspected, cleaned, or replaced every 3-6 months per the Periodic Maintenance instructions in
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19095-01/

or
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19102-01/ sectionC-1.

NOTE: Sun Alert 1021703.1 provides the basis for the filter action.

2) Perform physical replacement of IB_SSC unit.

* See Service Manual links below for the process.

3) Re-attach I/O cables as labeled.

4) Power on domain.

* Either press "On" switch on top panel or issue “poweron” from the lom prompt.

5) Watch SC POST execute on console and validate if errors are present.

* Contact Support if errors persist.

6) Update System Controller (lom) firmware.
NOTE: ScApp should be at least 5.20.14 (Patch 114527-15); See Sun Alert 1021703.1 for justification.

* Mixed firmware configurations is not supported.

* Firmware can be updated using the flashupdate command on the SC or lom -G command from Solaris.

* An external FTP or HTTP server is required to update firmware via flashupdate command from SC LOM.

See the following doc for details on the procedure:

In order to flash or update the firmware on the Sun Fire[TM] V1280/E2900 or Netra[TM] 1280/1290 servers without using a network connection to the system controller you must use the lom -G command.

See this doc as reference:
