Goal

Difference with Open Systems IBM LTO3/4 drives and AS/400 / iSeries IBM LTO drives.

Solution

The iSeries IBM LTO3/4 drives are unique from regular open systems drives, in that they have a bit flipped in the EPROM so they report to an inquiry as a 3580 tape drive.

The firmware they use is the same for both open systems and iSeries drives.

To change a standard IBM LTO drive to an AS400 drive, you will need to order a new drive.

When a spare drive is ordered. The drive has a unique part number for the ISeries.

419888703 [F] IBM LTO4,FC ISERIES,FRU ASSEMBLY

Note: No AS/400 iSeries LTO5 was released.
