TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: power supply failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.

* If your server is equipped with two power supply units, you can hot-swap a power supply. If your server only has one power supply, you must take the server offline and remove power before you replace the power supply.
* During operation, and empty power supply bay must have a filler panel installed for proper environmental control.

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED:

A. Locate a Faulty Power Supply

A faulty power supply will cause the Service Required LEDs (front and rear panels) as well as the Fault LED located on the power supply to light.

* From the rear of the server, check the power supply fault LEDs to identify which supply needs to be replaced.

B. Remove a Power Supply

1. Identify which power supply (0 or 1) requires replacement.

2. Determine if you can hot-swap the power supply:

* If there are two power supplies, you can hot-swap the faulty power supply without shutting down the server. Go to Step 4.
* If there in only one power supply, you must shut down the server before replacing the power supply. Go to Step 3

3. Shut down the Oracle Solaris OS.

4. Disconnect the power cord from the faulty power supply.

5. Grasp the power supply handle, press the release latch and pull the power supply out of the server.

C. Install a Power Supply

1. If the power supply bay contains a power supply filler panel, remove it.

2. Align the replacement power supply with the empty power supply chassis bay.

3. Slide the power supply into the chassis until it locks into place.

4. Plug the power cord into the power supply.

D. Verify the Functionality of a Power Supply

1. Verify that the power supply Power OK and AC Present LEDs are lit, and that the Fault LED is not lit.

2. Verify that the front and rear Service Required LEDs are not lit.

3. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:

* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, perform the required diagnostics process to ensure functionality.
* If Step 1 and Step 2 indicate that no faults have been detected, return the server to operation.
