DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
SPARC T3 Trained

TIME ESTIMATE: 120 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.

* The server must be fully shut down and the power cords disconnected.
* Take ESD Precautions.
* Components inside the chassis might be hot. Use caution when servicing components inside the chassis.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

A. Remove the Power Distribution Board

1. Remove the system from the rack.

2. Remove the motherboard assembly.

3. Disconnect the top cover interlock cable from the power distribution board.

4. Disconnect the three ribbon cables and the three-pin wire cable.

5. Remove the five screws that secure the power distribution board.

6. Grasp the bus bar and move the bus bar/power distribution board assembly to the left, away from the connector board and then up off the three standoffs.

7. If the power distribution board will be replaced, remove the bus bar from the assembly so it can be attached to the replacement power distribution board.

B. Install the Power Distribution Board

1. If you have a bus bar from a previous bus bar/power distribution assembly, attach it to the new power distribution board.

2. Lower the bus bar/power distribution board assembly into the chassis.

* The power distribution board fits over a set of three mushroom standoffs in the floor of the chassis.

3. Slide the power distribution board/bus bar assembly to the right, until it plugs into the connector board.

4. Install one screw to secure the power distribution board to the chassis.

5. Attach the other four screws to secure the power distribution board to the power supply backplane bus bars.

6. Connect the power supply backplane ribbon cable to its plug on the power distribution board.

7. Reconnect the three ribbon cables.

8. Reconnect the three-pin wire cable from the power supply backplane to the power distribution board.

9. Reconnect the top cover interlock cable to the power distribution board.

10. Install the motherboard assembly.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.

NOTE: After a new power distribution board is installed and the system is powered on, the chassis serial number and server part number must be programmed into the power distribution board. This operation is performed in a special service mode.
