DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
SPARC T3 Trained

Time Estimate: 120 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.

* The server must be fully shut down and the power cords disconnected.
* Take ESD Precautions.
* Components inside the chassis might be hot. Use caution when servicing components inside the chassis.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

A. Remove the Fan Power Board

1. Perform the preliminary steps required for cold service procedures.

2. Disconnect the power cables.

3. Extend the server into the maintenance position.

4. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.

5. Remove the top cover.

6. Remove all the fan modules.

7. Release the latch that’s in the middle of the fan power board assembly and swing open the access door.

8. Disconnect the SAS and SATA data cables from their respective connectors on the disk backplane and move them out of the way.

9. Disconnect the power and data cables from the fan power board.

10. Loosen the two captive screws that secure the fan power board to the chassis.

11. Slide the fan power board toward the front of the chassis and then lift it up and out.

B. Install the Fan Power Board

1. Clear all cables out of the fan module compartment.

* These include the SAS and SATA cables that come in from the motherboard compartment and the power and signal cables that are connected to the connector board.

2. Lower the fan power board assembly into the fan compartment and slide it toward the rear of the server.

* Keep the access door open during this step so the way is clear for laying the SAS and SATA data cables back across the fan power board’s cable gutter.

3. Tighten the two captive screws to secure the board to the chassis.

4. Connect the power and data cables that come from the connector board.

5. Connect the SAS and SATA data cables to their respective connectors on the disk backplane.

6. Close the fan power board access door.

7. Install the fan modules.

8. Close the fan compartment door.

9. Return the server to the rack.

10. Slide the server into the rack.

11. Connect the power cords.

12. Power on the system.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
