DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
Familiar with the C2 Autoloader and C4 library.

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
A tape cartridge is stuck inside the picker/gripper assembly and needs to be removed.

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
All work to the C2/C4 and tape drives need to be stopped.  C2/C4 and drives must be taken offline from the server and software application.  C2/C4 must be powered off.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE:
Refer to the attached document, "Sun StorEdge C2 Autoloader Lodged Tape Removal" for complete instruction on how to remove stuck cartridge from the picker/hand/gripper assembly.

Remove the top cover of the C2/C4:
If the autoloader is in a rack, follow the instructions in the Rack Installation Guide. All side rails and other rail attachments must be removed prior to removing the cover.
Before you can proceed, you must remove the autoloader from the rack, and remove the side rails from the autoloader.
1. Ensure that the power is off and/or disconnected. Take proper ESD precautions.
2. Use the appropriate tools (see Tools Required).
3. Remove the autoloader from the rack.
4. Remove the magazines or magazine blanks from the autoloader (refer to the Sun StorEdge C2 User’s
    Guide).
5. Remove a total of 26 screws from the cover. Rotate the screws in a counterclockwise direction.
    a. 10 screws on the top (see figure 6).
    b. Seven (7) screws on each side of the autoloader for a total of 14 screws (see figure 7).
    c. Two (2) screws on the back of the autoloader (see figure 8).
6. Lift up slightly on the cover and then slide the cover toward the back.

To remove the lodged tape inside the picker, you must first remove the picker cover.

1. Using the TORX driver and a #8 bit, remove the three screws holding the picker cover (see figure 11).
2. Once the picker cover is removed, the lodged tape inside the picker is exposed and can be easily lifted
    and removed (see figure 12).
3. Lift out the cartridge from the picker.
4. Once cartridge has been removed, replace the picker cover and re-install the 3 screws to secure cover.
5. Re-install the C2/C4 top cover and tighten down with screws. (Reference removal instructions)
6. Re-install the C2/C4 back into the rack as necessary.

Note:
This procedure will work on the C4 library as well.

Note:
Great care needs to be taken to avoid damaging the hand or the flex cable assembly.  Additional reference on cable and hand replacement are also attached.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Once the stuck cartridge is removed, bring the C2/C4 online to the server and software application.  Verify the C2/C4 is recognized and the drive are online.

PARTS NOTE: NA
