- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Field training in Sun Fire V480/V490 Server

- TIME ESTIMATE: 50 min
- TASK COMPLEXITY:    1

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
PCI Riser Card failure

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
Customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Power down System & disconnect Power Cord.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedure

Note:
Use max post only when searching for IO Controller issues(max post does not add testing for PCI cards), Fatal Resets, and Unrecoverable Errors(UEs) that Solaris is unable to properly diagnose.  If diag-level is set to max at OBP, confirm with customer that if can be moved to the factory default of min.

Remove PCI Access Panel
Remove Fan Tray 1
Remove RSC Card
Remove PCI Cards

1. Disconnect external cables attached to faceplate of PCI cards & any cables connected to internal connectors on PCI cards
2. Remove screws securing cards to chassis back panel
3. Pull PCI cards from slots
4. Place PCI cards on antistatic mat

Remove PCI Riser Board
1. Disconnect cables from PCI riser board
  a. FC-AL power cable from J1901
  b. System control switch/power button cable from J1401
  c. RMA data cable from J1001
  d. Fan Tray 0 power cable from J2302
2. Remove 2 screws securing PCI riser board to mounting bracket
3. Rotate mounting levers outward to release PCI riser board from chassis
4. Pull PCI riser board out of system & place on antistatic mat supporting PCI riser board from underneath as you remove it from system

Remove the IDPROM Module from the Removed PCI Riser Board

1. On the Removed PCI Riser Board locate the IDPROM Module, Socketed Part between PCI Slots 1 and 2
2. Grasp the IDPROM module at each end and pull it straight up. If necessary, gently rock the IDPROM module from side to side to facilitate removal.
3. Place the IDPROM module on an antistatic mat.

Install the IDPROM Module Removed from the Removed PCI Riser Board in to the Replacement PCI Riser Module

1.Insert the IDPROM module into its socket on the PCI riser board. Make sure that the notch on the IDPROM module is on the same side as the notch on the connector on the PCI riser board.
2. Push down firmly on the IDPROM module until it seats in its socket.

Replace PCI Riser Board
1. Slide PCI riser board into system
2. Push mounting levers inward to seat PCI riser board connectors into centerplane
3. Replace two screws that secure PCI riser board to chassis
4. Reconnect cables
  a. Fan Tray 0 power cable into J2302
  b. RMA cable into J1001
  c. System control switch/power button cable into J1401
  d. FC-AL power cable into J1901
5. Replace PCI riser board access panel & tighten 2 captive screws to secure

Replace PCI Cards
1. Insert PCI cards into appropriate slots on PCI riser board
2. Secure PCI cards faceplate to back panel with Phillips screws
3. Connect any internal & external cables to PCI cards

Replace RSC Card
Replace Fan Tray 1
Replace the PCI Access Panel

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot server & confirm full functionality
