How to Remove and Replace a Sun Fire V480/V490 Internal Cables
Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

Field training in Sun Fire V480/V490 Server
- TIME ESTIMATE: 40 minutes
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 1
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Faulty internal cable
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
System powered off is required.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
*** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge
Check the V480/V490 Service manual to identify the cable connection and routing for :
FC-AL power cable, FC-AL data cable, Removable media assembly cable, System controller switch button cable, Fan Tray cable.
1. Power off the system
2. Slide the system out of the cabinet
3. Remove the PCI access panel
4. Replace the appropriate cable from the cable kit, ensuring that the cable is correctly aligned and seated.
5. Install the PCI access panel
6. Slide the system into the cabinet
7. Power on the system
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Verify the LED status
Restart the applications
