FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Power Cord failed
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution. The customer is not required to perform a system shutdown.
The Sun Fire V880/V890 server has N+1 where N=3 power supplies each with its own power cord. You can swap one power cord while the other two are still running. For a non-redundant power supplies configuration, the system should be already powered down before replace the bad power cord.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
The Sun Fire V880/V890 server has redundant power supplies each with its own power cord. You can swap one power cord while the other one is still running. For a single power source configuration, the system should be already powered down before replace the bad power cord.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
If the replacement was a hot swap on a redundant configuration, the system should be operational and need no further work.
If the replacement was in a system with a single power source, restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
PARTS NOTE:
Refer to the V880 System Handbook and V890 Systems Handbook for the country specific type of power cord.
