DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Field training in Sun Fire V880/V890 Server

- TIME ESTIMATE: 40 min
- TASK COMPLEXITY:    1

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
CD / DVD-ROM /Tape drive failed

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution. The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge.
1. Shutdown Solaris
2. Poweroff the system
3. Slide the system out of the cabinet
4. Open and remove the system side door
5. Remove the removable media bezel from the front of the system
6. Remove the cables connected to the back of the DVD-ROM or Tape
7. Remove the two Phillips screws securing the DVD-ROM  or Tape to the chassis
8. Pull the failed DVD-ROM from the system
9. Install the new DVD-ROM or Tape into the system

   9a.  If appropriate, set the SCSI Id of the tape drive to match the removed drive.

   9b.  Slide a good DVD-ROM or Tape into the slot


10. Insert and tighten the two Phillips screws that secure the DVD-ROM  or Tape to the system
11. Connect the appropriate cables to the back of the DVD-ROM or Tape Drive
12. Install and close the system side door
13. Slide the system into the cabinet
14. Poweron the system



OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
