DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Field training in Sun Fire V880/V890 Server
- TIME ESTIMATE: 35 min
- TASK COMPLEXITY: 3
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Power Distribution Board faulty
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Cold Part swap system down -
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
Customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Then power down system and disconnect Power Cord.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Avoid Electrostatic Discharge
1. Power off System
2. Open & Remove a side Door
3. Remove all Power Supplies from system
4. Remove both I/O Fan Trays
5. Remove all the Disk Drives
6. Remove both CPU Fan Trays
7. Remove CPU Fan Status Assembly
8. Remove FC-AL Disk Cage
9. Remove PCI air deflector from PDB bracket.Pull out two plastic pins securing PCI air deflector and remove it from the system.
10.Disconnect the Following cables from PDB.
a. BAse backplane power cable P15 from PDB at connector P15/J8
b. If an expansion backplane is installed, disconnect base/expansion cable P42 from the PDB
c. Remove power cable P17 from PDB
d. Remove IO signal cable P25 from the PDB
e. Remove IO board power cable P13 from the PDB
11. Loosen captive phillips screw securing PDB to its bracket.
12. Carefully pull PDB out from system until you can easily access two cables still attached to PDB.
Note - Be careful not to damage I2C cable and MB power cables still attached to PDB
a. Pull PDB out until it clears tab on centerplane
b. Carefully rotate board away from PDB bracket
c. Pull the PDB out from system enough so that you can disconnect two cables still attached to board.
13. Disconnect the following cables from PDB,
a. Motherboard Power cable P7
b. IO board remote sense cable P38 from PDB
14. Remove PDB from system
15. Place board on an antistatic mat.
16. After replacement please follow reverse order to replace PDB
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Start software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation
