FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
I/O Fan Tray failure
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
All fan trays feature a hot-swap capability. You can remove and replace a faulty fan tray without shutting down the operating system or turning off the system power. However, at least one working I/O fan tray must be present in order to provide proper system cooling.
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge
Note:
Use max post only when searching for IO Controller issues, Fatal Resets, and Unrecoverable Errors(UEs) that Solaris is unable to properly diagnose. If diag-level is set to max at OBP, confirm with customer that if can be moved to the factory default of min.

If you are not performing a hot-swap procedure, complete the following task (1-2) :
1. Power Off the system
2. Open and remove the side door
3. Identify the fan tray that you want to remove (The primary I/O fan tray is in slot 3).
4. Loosen the two captive Phillips screws securing the fan tray to the brackets.
5. Slide the fan tray out from the brackets.
Note - During a hot-swap operation, after you remove a fan tray or power supply, wait for an acknowledgement message on the system console before installing a replacement part; otherwise, the environmental monitoring software will not recognize the new device and false error conditions will result.
6. Slide the fan tray into the brackets until the connector on the fan tray is fully seated into its socket. The label on the I/O fan tray indicates the orientation of the fan tray.
7. Tighten the two captive Phillips screws that secure the fan tray to the brackets.

AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Verify the OS functionality and start the applications.
