Video - Sun Fire V240 Action Plan: Upper and Lower Interface Board Replacement (7:30)

Solution

- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
V210/V240 server training

- TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

- TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Failed interface board.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
Power down system.


WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Take appropriate ESD precautions and ensure that system is powered down.

2. Remove cover assembly.

3. Remove all hard drives, noting their positions for reinstallation.

4. Disconnect interface board interconnect cable.

5. Disconnect PDB cable.

6. Unscrew the seven screws that secure the upper interface board.

7. Lift the upper interface board out of the chassis.

On the lower interface board:.

8. Disconnect the system board cable.

9. Disconnect the PSU cable.

10. Disconnect system configuration card reader cable.

11. Unscrew the three screws and five standoffs that secure the lower interface boaed to the chassis.

12. Lift board partways from chassis and remove cabel from bezel assembly.

13. Remove lower interface board from chassis.

14. Locate the new lower interface board into the chassis using the screw hole in the corners as guides.

15. Screw the lower interface board into place.

16. Attach bezel, PCB, PSU and system board cables.

17. Locate the upper interface board using the shoulder standoffs as guides.

18. Screw the upper interface board into place.

20. Attach lower interface board, PDB and system board connection cables.

21. Reinstall disk drives in their respective slots.

22. Reinstall cover assembly.

 

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE:

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot Operating system and start applications.
