WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: DVD drive failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

The system should be powered down.

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED:

Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

Replacing the DVD drive

1. Power down the server

2. Open the bezel

3. Unclip the catches that fasten the DVD drive to the chassis

4. Pull the DVD drive towards you until it is free of its connectors and out of the chassis

5. Insert the new DVD drive

6. Press it home firmly until the clips engage with the server's chassis

7. Close the bezel 

 

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
