Goal

The purpose of this document is to describe how to identify the tray type of a given tray for a  Storage[TM], StorageTek[TM],  or StorEdge[TM], array, using the management interface software Common Array Manager or SANtricity Storage Manager.

Solution

Use the steps below to identify your storage tray based on the interface(graphical or command line) and the management software(CAM or SANtricity).

Using the CAM BUI:

   1. Open a browser to the CAM host: https://cam_server:6789
   2. Under the "Storage System Summary" area click on the array name.

  •  If the array is listed as unresponsive, you may have a communication issue.  Please correct this prior to proceeding.  Reference <Document: 1007046.1>Sun Storage 2500, 2500-M2, 6000 and Flexline Arrays: Troubleshooting Management Communication Faults.

   3. Select 'Physical Devices' and then the 'Trays' tab.
   4. Note the information in the 'Tray Type' column.
If the tray type is a CSM100, you need to use the CLI to determine whether it is a legacy StorageTek tray type(FLA200, FLA300, or FLC200)
   5. Use the table below to determine tray type

Using the CAM sscs CLI:

   1. List managed arrays:
        sscs list array

   2. List tray information
        sscs list -d -t iom fru Tray.XX.IOM.A

  •  If the array is listed as unresponsive, you may have a communication issue.  Please correct this prior to proceeding.  Reference <Document: 1007046.1>Troubleshooting Sun StorageTek[TM], Sun StorEdge[TM], and Sun Storage[TM] Management Communication Faults with Arrays.

   3. Note the 'Model' field.
   4. Use the table below to determine tray type

Using the SANtricity GUI:

   1. Start SANtricity and Open the Array Management Window by double clicking on the array name.

   2. In the Physical window there will be a Battery/Fan Status Icon for the given tray.
   3. Look at the Product ID in that field
   4. Use the table below to determine tray type

Using SANtricity SMcli:

  1.  List available arrays:

       SMcli -d -i

  •  If the array is listed as unresponsive, you may have a communication issue.  Please correct this prior to proceeding.  Reference <Document: 1007046.1>Troubleshooting Sun StorageTek[TM], Sun StorEdge[TM], and Sun Storage[TM] Management Communication Faults with Arrays.

  2. From a command prompt, type the following:

SMcli -n -c "show storageArray profile;"

 3.  Scroll through the output(it can be quite lengthy) and look at the TRAYS---- section.  Look for the Product ID in that field.
 4.  Use the table below to determine the Tray type

Product(SANtricity)/Model(CAM) field Tray Type IOM/ESM

Number of Drives Drive Types

CSM100_E_F CSM100 FC 96xx 14 FC Only

If the drive is part of the same tray as the RAID controllers, the tray type for the base tray differs by array type.
