Goal
Description
Code requirements for IBM or ADIC LTO Drives Converted to be used in Oracle/StorageTek[TM] SL3000 Modular Library System.
If a customer has purchased drive conversion trays to support drives previously installed in IBM or ADIC libraries and are now converting them to run in the SL3000 library, they should be made aware that the Oracle/StorageTek code available on the Code website has a special personality that is used with Oracle/STK original equipment drives. This code will NOT work in drives that come from IBM or ADIC directly.
Solution
Steps to Follow
The Sun StorageTek code will fail code load on drives from IBM/ADIC libraries.
The customer or CSE will be required to get the latest drive code from the IBM Website.
The Conversion Bill number for the drive trays in the SL3000 is: CB104671
The CB comes with:
- SL3000 drive tray
- Drive Bezel
- Cabling for the tray
- Red Label to mark the drive

Internal Comments
Example of LTO-4 drive code difference:
Usually the released IBM code numbers follows our code numbers quite closely - except this time for our 91VF for LTO-4.
1. The current IBM code is 89B2 and we are very close to releasing 91VF.
2. It is suggested the "IBM" drives are labeled so they know what code to use in them.
3. When these drives are replaced with Sun drive spares, they will then use Sun code.
4. At sometime down the road there will be a mix of drives IBM and Oracle and the code that goes into each.
5. Not a huge deal if the IBM drives are marked accordingly.
6. This aspect of this program was known at the time this business opportunity came up and all parties agreed that they could live with it.
7. Use the 'IBM ITDT Diag Tool' as the .RO extension of real IBM code normally won't work with SCSI Fiber Toolbox... which looks for .frm extension.
Contact Oracle Tape Technical Support to acquire this tool.
Download the required tool version from the Tape Support website: IBM ITDT tools are listed under the "Reference" -> "Tape Product Tools" -> "OEM Drives" section on TapeSupport (https://tapesupport.us.oracle.com/Procedures/tools_main.php#OEM Drives).
Note: For the Windows versions of IBM ITDT tools, MOS won't allow you to post an ".exe" or ".msi" file so we had to add a ".txt" file extension to the end of them so please make sure the customer is aware that after they download the file from MOS they will have to take the ".txt" file extension off.
Note:
Level 2 Tape Hardware Support and Oracle/STK OEM Tape Engineering will NOT have the IBM personality code in their possession.
