Goal

Is SL8500 supported in a DAS (Direct Attach) to a Solaris Server

DAS
Solaris server
SAN driver
FC
Sun HBA
SL8500
Direct attach

Solution

Steps to Follow
Direct attach to the SL8500 is not supported at this time. One must use ACSLS or HSC as the control software, connected via TCPIP.

Answer was provided by Kevin Luther, NSSE.
I've been told that the connections to the tape in the SL8500 are only supported in fabric (F), hence it requires a nameserver. The Sun HBA and SAN drivers do not provide a nameserver, we need a FC switch for the nameserver, this would mean that FC switches are required when the SL8500 is connected to a Solaris server. I do not find such statement in the SL8500 documentations.
