How Auto clean Works in L Series Libraries.

Solution

How Auto Clean Works:

The tape drive sets a bit in the Library/Drive interface during an unload when the drive detects that a cleaning is needed. The library mounts a cleaning tape, which is compatible for that drive type, from the play ground holding area reserved for that type media, before the next mount command for that drive is executed. The library uses the VOLID (DG CLNxxx y or DG CLNxx yy .) to determine a cartridge is a cleaning cartridge.

The Media type on the cartridge label is used to determine compatibility with the drive type.
Refer to the "Open Systems Tape Drives Information Manual", PN MT9120 or the L700 Install Manual, PN 95843, Chapter 6, for examples of labels used in STK Libraries.
Both of these manuals are found on the Oracle Documentation under Tape Products.

Auto Clean is enabled when the tape library is initialized and detects cleaning cartridges in the reserved cells. Please see the L700e or L180 Tape Library Operators Guide (document: PN 95845 and PN 95895 for L180) for more details.
