DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
HP LTO Drive experience
Task Complexity: 2
Time Estimate: 75 minutes
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? Drive must be offline to software application and server. Drive must be powered down.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Prior to physically removing jammed /stuck cartridge, make sure the following actions have been taken to avoid any unnecessary steps:
· In environments that utilize ACSLS or HSC, a forced dismount command has been issued to the drive in question.
· The drive in question has been reset/power cycled AFTER being placed offline by the host. Make sure the tape did a rewind and unload completely. The time to complete this unload may vary depending on how much tape was on the machine reel.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Manual Unload Procedure:
1. Drive mechanism must be free of assembly. DO NOT REMOVE DRIVE COVERS.
2. Orient drive on side with front of drive facing towards left as shown in the attached diagram.
3. Turn RD Thumbwheel (shown in diagram below) by hand towards back of Drive as far as possible (there is no hard stop, but the wheel will begin to spring back). This positions the grabber into the parking position.
Note that the grabber may already be positioned in the parking position.
4. Using T-10 Torx Driver, rotate front reel motor (shown in diagram below) clockwise as far as possible. This un-threads the tape. The front reel motor will stop rotating clockwise when the tape is completely un-threaded and the tape leader is successfully parked. If a significant length of tape is threaded, this step could take a long time.
5. Turn RD Thumbwheel (shown in diagram below) by hand towards front of drive until cartridge is fully ejected. There will be some resistance as the cartridge comes free of the magnet. This will need to be overcome to get the cartridge in the fully ejected position.
6. Remove the cartridge by hand.
7. Check out drive for full functionality and look at cartridge for any damage.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once the media cartridge has been removed from the tape drive (by either the above actions or the following physical procedure), please run load/unload tests to verify the drive is still operational.
Inspect the removed cartridge for possible physical damage to the case, file reel sprocket, leader pin/block, and/or the media itself according to the type of media being worked with.
NOTE:
Under NO circumstances should tape drives be returned with Media still inside the drive. If a tape is stuck in a drive, review the Knowledge Base or contact Tape Hardware Support for instructions on how to remove the tape with an email to tapehw_ww@oracle.com include the SR/case number in the subject line of the email.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Bring drive back online to server and software application. Have customer verify they have access to drive.
