Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1014077.1 : Tape -IPv6 Support for Tape Libraries
PreviouslyPublishedAs 220335 Applies to:Sun StorageTek L1400 Tape Library - Version All Versions and laterSun StorageTek L700e Tape Library - Version All Versions and later Sun StorageTek SL500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions and later Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System - Version All Versions and later Sun StorageTek SL8500 Modular Library System - Version All Versions and later All Platforms GoalIs Oracle/STK IPv6 compliant? SolutionIPv6 = Internet Protocol Version 6 which is 128 bit addressing vs. the 32 bit addressing of today with IPv4.
Engineering does not plan to change the (L700 or 9310 TCP/IP) or other currently released Oracle/StorageTek libraries to be IPv6. There is no IPv6 support on Oracle/StorageTek EOL products. No IPv6 on the SL500 and L-series libraries. Support for IPv6 was provided in 7.01 release of SL8500 code. This code was released with Linux 2.6. Both IPv6 support and Linux 2.6 were removed in a subsequent release due to technical reasons. At this time we have no IPv6 support in SL8500 or SL3000. SL8500 Release Notes FRS_7.01 introduces Product Enhancements as Added support for IPv6 But From FRS_7.07 to the current version 8.31 release notes include following Issue: IPv6 addressing is not supported. Work around: No work around at this time (Aug 2015)
SL3000 Release Notes FRS_3.00 introduces Product Enhancements as Support for IPv6 But From FRS_3.60 to the current version 4.31 release note include following Issue: IPv6 addressing is not supported. Work around: No work around at this time (Aug 2015)
Note: (Aug-4-2014, BM) There are some recent updates on IPv6 SL3000 and SL8500 support, we do have support using a third party server. Oracle has tested a recommended solution using a Tayga server, reference Tayga at www.litech.org/tayga. Additional testing is scheduled this year to supplement the Tayga setup instructions and will be made available to Oracle SL3000 and SL8500 library customers.
