Goal

How to retrieve a VTV past the EOD marker on an MVC?

Solution

VTVs past the EOD (end of data) marker are generally a result of a different CDS being used.  The MVC was then Audited to sync the CDS with the VTVs at the beginning of the MVC.  But this also made VTCS recognize the EOD marker on the MVC so it wouldn't go past the new pointer and audit the remaining tape to note the pre-existing VTVs.

For most drive/transport models, the only way to retrieve a VTV past the EOD marker on an MVC is to have the Oracle Field Engineer (FE) send the tape to Oracle Tape Hardware support for data recovery.

With the transport type T10000C (T10KC) there is an available option with a minimum microcode level.  Please review <Document 1559824.1> titled 'T10000C - Read Past EOD Feature With 1.57.307 (or higher) Code' for more details.
