Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1012313.1 : Sun Storage 3310 and 3320 Arrays: How to Identify Disk IDs and Correct Backend Cabling
PreviouslyPublishedAs 216992 Applies to:Sun Storage 3310 Array - Version Not Applicable and laterSun Storage 3320 SCSI Array - Version Not Applicable and later All Platforms GoalThis document describes how to identify the IDs of disk drives in Sun Storage 3310 and 3320 SCSI RAID Arrays, with or without attached expansion units, in single-bus or split-bus configuration. It also explains how to identify the cabling schemes for these devices. SolutionAccording to SCSI standards, a channel in a SCSI bus can have upto 16 device IDs, from 0 to 15, where IDs 6 & 7 are reserved for internal device usage. The disk IDs for all 12 disks in single-bus and split-bus configuration of Sun Storage 3310 or 3320 RAID Arrays connected to one host without expansion units are shown below:
For more information about the backend cabling without expansion units, refer the following section from Sun StorEdge 3000 Family Installation, Operation, and Service Manual for the Sun StorEdge 3310 SCSI Array: 4.7 Connecting Cables for a Single-Bus Configuration The disk IDs for all 12 disks in single-bus and split-bus configuration of the first expansion unit are shown below.
The disk IDs for all 12 disks in single-bus and split-bus configuration of the second expansion unit are shown below. Channel 3 is used for both single-bus and split-bus configurations on the second expansion unit.
For more information about the backend cabling procedure to connect one or two expansion units, refer to the following section from Sun StorEdge 3000 Family Installation, Operation, and Service Manual for the Sun StorEdge 3310 SCSI Array: 4.10 Cabling to Expansion Units Do you still have questions?
