Goal
Many customers in the field require only minimal Solaris[TM] installation for Sun SPARC[R] Enterprise M3000/M4000/M5000/M8000/M9000 Servers.
This document provides detailed information on required Solaris packages needed in order to manage the Solaris domains via Service Processor Software (XSCF).
Solution
This document provides details on what packages are needed or required to take full advantage of features available on SPARC Enterprise M3000/M4000/M5000/M8000/M9000 Servers platform.
Solaris 10
Customers that choose "Core Solaris Installation" will only have minimum packages installed for the domain running Solaris.
Often, this is sufficient for the tasks that customers need.
However, certain required platform features are not enabled in the minimal Solaris installation.
These features are platform specific and available only if domain running Solaris can communicate with Service Processor Software (XSCF).
FMA reporting and diagnostics are required on the SPARC Enterprise M3000/M4000/M5000/M8000/M9000 Servers.
Solaris with "Core Solaris Installation" will not have the following features.
- SSH (ssh communication with Service Processor Software XSCF)
- NTP (Network Time Protocol)
- Logarchiving (syslog/console message archival on the XSCF)
- DR (Dynamic Reconfiguration)
- FMA reporting (FMA errors captured on the Service Processor XSCF)
As each of the following features utilizes the DSCP interface, the packages that provide for the DSCP interface must be installed first:
The following are mandatory packages for FMA diagnostics
- SUNWCdscp cluster packages :
- SUNWdscpr
- SUNWdscpu
- SUNWdcsr
- SUNWdcsu
Note : SUNWdscpr and SUNWdscpu belong to the Core distribution (SUNWCreq Metacluster); as a consequence, they will be installed during the fresh installation of Solaris on an OPL domain. This may not be the case when installing the domain using a flash archive from a different system.
To implement the following features
please add the following:
The following are mandatory packages for FMA diagnostics
SUNWCsppp Metaclusters (Packages to support Solaris PPP) including the following packages:
- SUNWpppd
- SUNWpppdr
- SUNWpppdt
- SUNWpppdu
- SUNWpppg
To implement the following features
please add PPP packages from above plus the following secure key management packages.
The following are mandatory packages for FMA diagnostics
Solaris 11
Oracle Solaris 11 installation tools and package formats are different from the previous Solaris 10 and earlier releases.
The Solaris 10 and below installation metaclusters (from "core" SUNWCreq to "entire distribution + OEM support" SUNWCxall) have been replaced in Oracle Solaris 11 by IPS package installation groups that represent a larger server environment, desktop environments, an AI client environment, etc.
In order to verify which IPS package group is required to implement the Mx000 functionality, you may follow the steps outlined below:
1) search the corresponding IPS package in S11
# pkg search SUNWdcsr
INDEX ACTION VALUE PACKAGE
legacy_pkg legacy SUNWdcsr pkg:/system/domain-configuration/sparc-enterprise@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
pkg legacy SUNWdcsr pkg:/system/domain-configuration/sparc-enterprise@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
# pkg search SUNWpppdr
INDEX ACTION VALUE PACKAGE
legacy_pkg legacy SUNWpppdr pkg:/system/network/ppp@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
pkg legacy SUNWpppdr pkg:/system/network/ppp@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
# pkg search SUNWpppdt
INDEX ACTION VALUE PACKAGE
incorporate depend pkg:/SUNWpppdt@0.5.11,5.11-0.133 pkg:/consolidation/osnet/osnet-incorporation@0.5.11-0.175.2.3.0.4.2
legacy_pkg legacy SUNWpppdt pkg:/system/network/ppp/tunnel@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
pkg legacy SUNWpppdt pkg:/system/network/ppp/tunnel@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
# pkg search SUNWpppg
INDEX ACTION VALUE PACKAGE
incorporate depend pkg:/SUNWpppg@0.5.11,5.11-0.133 pkg:/consolidation/osnet/osnet-incorporation@0.5.11-0.175.2.3.0.4.2
legacy_pkg legacy SUNWpppg pkg:/system/network/ppp/pppdump@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
pkg legacy SUNWpppg pkg:/system/network/ppp/pppdump@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
# pkg search SUNWsckmr
INDEX ACTION VALUE PACKAGE
legacy_pkg legacy SUNWsckmr pkg:/service/security/key-management/sparc-enterprise@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
pkg legacy SUNWsckmr pkg:/service/security/key-management/sparc-enterprise@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
Instead, the following legacy packages are not found by the "pkg search" directly:
SUNWdscpr
SUNWdscpu
Then, looking for drivers or libraries that were installed with SUNWdscpr/u on a Solaris 10 based Mx000 platform:
# cat /var/sadm/install/contents | egrep 'SUNWdscpr|SUNWdscpu'
/platform/SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise/kernel/drv/oplkmdrv.conf f none 0644 root sys 198 16130 1154172145 SUNWdscpr
/usr/platform/SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise/lib/libdscp.so.1 f none 0755 root bin 25760 38423 1151038395 SUNWdscpu
...snip...
it is possible to check which Solaris 11 package does include them:
# pkg search oplkmdrv
INDEX ACTION VALUE PACKAGE
driver_name driver oplkmdrv pkg:/system/domain-service-processor-protocol/sparc-enterprise@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
basename file platform/SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise/kernel/drv/sparcv9/oplkmdrv pkg:/system/domain-service-processor-protocol/sparc-enterprise@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
# pkg search libdscp.so.1
INDEX ACTION VALUE PACKAGE
basename file usr/platform/SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise/lib/libdscp.so.1 pkg:/system/domain-service-processor-protocol/sparc-enterprise@0.5.11-0.175.2.0.0.42.2
2) check which group does include the relevant packages
# pkg search -o fmri -H '*/solaris-core-platform:depend:group:' | grep -i sparc
system/domain-service-processor-protocol/sparc-enterprise
# pkg search -o fmri -H '*/solaris-large-server:depend:group:' | grep -i sparc
service/security/key-management/sparc-enterprise
system/domain-configuration/sparc-enterprise
# pkg search -o fmri -H '*/solaris-large-server:depend:group:' | grep -i ppp
system/network/ppp
system/network/ppp/pppdump
system/network/ppp/tunnel
So Mx000 servers will need solaris-large-server IPS package group to have the full feature set.

Internal Comments
This applies to M3000, M4000, M5000, M8000, M9000 platforms.
All the features require domain/SP communication are via DSCP (Domain/SP Communication Protocol) on OPL. DSCP builds on PPP technology and add Secure Key management for DR and FMA with ETM.
