SolutionSteps to Follow 1. Verify whether the current (installed) firmware revision is at or beyond the mandatory levels. Please refer to Doc 1012949.1: How to determine the system firmware version on T1000/T2000 servers. 2. If the firmware is not at the required level, obtain the latest firmware patch from MOS. It is suggested to use MOS (Patches & Updates) to obtain the current patch and firmware levels. 3. Choose which firmware upgrade (flash-update) method will be used. There are two supported methods for updating Sun System Firmware: Method 1: From the System Controller (SC) console Method 2: From the Solaris console (OS prompt) The first method has been supported in all revisions of the System Firmware, while the second method was added starting with version 6.1.10 and requires a separate Solaris utility (sysfwdownload), which is now bundled in the release with the Sun System Firmware binary. While Method 1 is the original and remains the default, both methods are fully supported and the choice of which to use is for the customer to decide, based on system management practices and/or tool preferences. 4. Follow the detailed instructions in the Sun Fire Tx000 Install Guide and the patch Install.info file to upgrade the firmware, using one of the available flash-update methods. Be aware of the following: Note1: When upgrading the firmware from the SC prompt, you must have already downloaded the new Sun System Firmware image from the MOS (Patches & Updates) site to a local FTP server accessible by the system, whose firmware you are upgrading. Ensure that the SC network management port is configured and use the correct syntax of the 'flashupdate' command: sc> flashupdate -s <ipaddr> -f <pathname> Note2: Before using the 'flashupdate' command, make sure that the system is in powered-off state. From the System Controller, issue the poweroff command (this sequence will take about 60 seconds to completely power the server off): sc> poweroff Are you sure you want to power off the system [y/n] y sc> SC Alert: SC Request to Power Off Host. SC Alert: Host system has shut down. sc> Also make sure that your virtual keyswitch setting is not in the LOCKED position. You can check the setting from the System Controller with the following command: sc> showkeyswitch If the virtual key switch is in LOCKED position you can change that with the following command: sc> setkeyswitch -y normal Note 3 : The 'sysfwdownload' method (from Solaris) is NOT supported with older firmware versions - earlier than 6.1.10. The firmware upgrade to 6.1.10 must be done as usual via the SC network management port, using the 'flashupdate' command from the sc> prompt. Once running firmware 6.1.10 firmware or later, updates from Solaris will be supported, via 'sysfwdownload'. 5. Verify that the firmware update was successful. For the system to use the new firmware you must reset the System Controller. Once the System Controller has reset, login as the user 'admin' and verify the Sun System Firmware versions match those identified under the latest System Firmware using the "showsc version -v and "showhost" commands. For details refer to Doc 1012949.1: How to determine the system firmware version on T1000/T2000 Servers 6. Resume operations by powering on the system and boot the operating system. From the System Controller power on the system and start Solaris. sc> poweron -c SC Alert: Host System has Reset ..... {0} ok boot ..... console login:
