Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1009173.1 : Tape - How to Replace FC Tape Drives When Using Veritas NetBackup or Legato Networker/Solstice Backup[TM]
PreviouslyPublishedAs 212702 Applies to:Sun Storage Flexline (FLX) SANShare Software - Version Not Applicable and laterSun StorageTek L6000 Tape Library - Version Not Applicable and later Sun StorageTek 9840B Tape Drive - Version Not Applicable and later Sun Storage L100 Tape Library - Version Not Applicable and later Sun StorageTek L180 Tape Library - Version Not Applicable and later All Platforms GoalYou have FC-attached tape drives, use Veritas NetBackup or Legato Networker/Solstice Backup[TM], and need to replace one or more of the tape drives. SolutionResolution (for Veritas NetBackup) -1. Shutdown nbu daemons (using "/etc/rc2.d/S77netbackup stop" or equivalent). -2. Run "cfgadm -c unconfigure cX::(tape drive wwn)" for each tape drive that will be replaced. -3. Shut down (power-off) the tape library. -4. Shut down host (touch /reconfigure ; shutdown). -5. Replace tape drive(s). -6. Power-on library. -7. Power-on host. -8. Either perform "boot -r" or if "touch /reconfigure" was run, just "boot". -9. Shut down nbu daemons -10. Run "cfgadm -lav -o show_FCP_dev" to determine what the new tape drive wwns are. -11. Run sg.build and sg.links to generate a new and correct sg.conf -12. Copy the new sg.conf to /kernel/drv/sg.conf -13. cat the sg.links file onto the end of /etc/devlink.tab (using "cat sg.links>> /etc/devlink.tab") -14. modunload sg driver -15. modload sg driver -16. Run /opt/openv/volmgr/bin/sgscan to check that the new tape drives have been discovered by the sg driver, and that the sg driver has attached them. -17. Start up NBU daemons. If you do not want to incur host system downtime, you can perform the following procedure instead: (for Veritas NetBackup) -1. Shut down NBU daemons (using "/etc/rc2.d/S77netbackup stop" or equivalent). -2. Run "cfgadm -c unconfigure cX::(tape drive wwn)" for each tape drive that will be replaced. -3. Shut down (power-off) the tape library. -4. Replace tape drive(s). -5. Power-on library. -6. Run "devfsadm -v -i st" to ensure that the tape drives are correctly recognised by the host. -7. Run "cfgadm -lav -o show_FCP_dev" to determine what the new tape drive wwns are. -8. Run sg.build and sg.links to generate a new and correct sg.conf -9. Copy the new sg.conf to /kernel/drv/sg.conf -10. cat the sg.links file onto the end of /etc/devlink.tab (using "cat sg.links>> /etc/devlink.tab") -11. modunload sg driver -12. modload sg driver -13. Run /opt/openv/volmgr/bin/sgscan to check that the new tape drives have been discovered by the sg driver, and that the sg driver has attached them. -14. Start up NBU daemons. Note: You can also use "luxadm -e dump_map /path/to/fc/hba" to see what devices are attached to your fc hba. If you are using Solstice Backup / Legato NetWorker then run /etc/rc2.d/S95networker stop to shutdown the daemons. The kernel driver module that needs unloading and reloading is called "lus". The equivalent of sg.build under NetWorker is the script /usr/sbin/nsr/lus_add_fp_devs The equivalent of sgscan under NetWorker is the binary /usr/sbin/nsr/inquire
Problem Resolution < Document: 1006168.1 > Sun StorEdge[TM] fabric environment: Boot errors for fabric-attached devices removed, turned off or undetected.
