Goal
Under any System Controller Application (ScApp) version on a Sun Fire[TM] class machine, you might see the following error logged in showlogs or in the platform loghost:
Jun 19 15:39:47 f6800b-ssc0 Platform.SC: [ID 532468 local1.error] error writing response: S_errno_EPIPE
There don't appear to be other symptoms or errors, and the system is unaffected.
Fix
The ScApp has a service that listens on TCP port 2001.
This service is used to transfer Java[TM] class bytecode over HTTP to the connecting client, used for Sun Fire Link management and field-replaceable unit (FRU) identification services. If a connection is made to TCP port 2001, but then a disconnect occurs before a request is made, an IOException is triggered that prints this error: "error writing response: S_errno_EPIPE".
No common clients connect to TCP port 2001, so this sort of error could be triggered, for example, by port scanning.
No problem is associated with this error, and the error itself does not affect the operation of the System Controller nor the domains; the error may however help in spotting scenarios where the System Controller is not configured on a private network (as recommended by Sun Fire Midrange Systems Platform Administration Manual available here) and/or a port scanning is active.
