Solution Type Technical Instruction Sure Solution 1005332.1 : Sun SPARC(R) External I/O Expansion Unit Device Paths
PreviouslyPublishedAs 207442 Applies to:Sun External I/O Expansion Unit - Version Not Applicable and laterAll Platforms GoalThe intent of this document is to provide the reader with an overview of how the Sun SPARC External I/O Expansion Unit device paths are arranged. SolutionThe Sun SPARC External I/O Expansion Unit provides additional I/O HBA slots to the server to which the unit is attached. Expansion of 1 Server PCIe slot to 6 PCIe slots via the PCIe boat Expansion of 1 Server PCIe slot to 6 PCI/PCI-X slots via the PCI-X boat In order to understand the Sun SPARC External I/O Expansion Unit Device Paths, it is helpful to have a high level understanding of the unit's architecture, which is graphically represented as follows: PCIe boat: Server's PCIe slot device path, plus: |--/pci@0 |--pci@1/pci@0 |--pci@0 (Slot 1) |--pci@1 (Slot 2) |--pci@9 (Slot 3) |--pci@9/pci@0 |--pci@0 (Slot 4) |--pci@1 (Slot 5) |--pci@9 (Slot 6)
PCI/PCI-X boat: Server's PCIe slot device path, plus: |--/pci@0 |--pci@1 |--pci@0 (Slot 1) |--pci@0,1 (Slot 2) |--pci@9 |--pci@0 (Slot 3) |--pci@0,1 (Slot 4) |--pci@8 |--pci@0 (Slot 5) |--pci@0,1 (Slot 6) The same information as represented in the following tables:
For more information on Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000/M5000 server Device Paths, see Document: 1002807.1 Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 and M5000 Server Device Paths. For more information on Sun SPARC Enterprise M8000/M9000 Device Paths, see Document: 1004116.1 Sun SPARC Enterprise M8000 and M9000 Device Paths. Actual device paths may be seen using some of the following methods: OBP: show-devs command Solaris: /etc/path_to_inst file Solaris: prtpicl command Solaris: prtdiag -v command Attachments This solution has no attachment |
